Historical Renovation
We Americans love our historical buildings . . . especially when theyre well maintained. Thats where Castle Rock Construction joins the picture, because these buildings we love so much offer a unique set of challenges. Perhaps the biggest challenge is maintaining the integrity of historic buildings while designing and renovating to incorporate energy-saving, accessibility, current building codes, and fire-code compliance.
Architecturally, matching finishes and century-old millwork are a separate set of issues. We are uniquely suited to historical renovation because we can match old millwork products by constructing exact replicas. Sometimes we try to restore finishes to what they were when the building was built, other times we try to find the same type of finishes and paint colors that were in vogue at the time. And sometimes we try to match wall coverings from old photographs of the building and restore them to that state. Were ready to do whatever it takes to keep true to the original architecture.
Unlike most new-construction projects, historical renovations often hold surprises. We know to expect the unexpected. Its all those little things that creep up. Its not unusual to open up a wall and see theres no real structure behind the lathe and horse-hair plaster. We have to think on our feet when dealing with these kinds of situations. Thats where our experience gives us an advantage. We know our historical renovation clients will be please, and their wonderful old structures (such as our Suisun office building, an historical firehouse) will be with us for many more decades to come.
